Here, we'll use "tool" to refer to any application, software, or hardware that can record a video.  The tool you choose will be based on the type of video you want to create.  For example, if you want to record a brief weekly introduction video, any video camera, cell phone camera, or webcam will do.  However, if you are recording a lecture in which you will share slides or other supplementary materials, a more specialized tool is needed. Which tool is recommended for recording speech over PowerPoint slides?

We like Powerpoint's integrated recording tool - Users record narrations for individual slides, which makes recording and editing much more efficient and convenient. Additionally, powerpoint slide content can be edited very easily before or after recording audio.

Which tool is recommended for quick videos of myself talking?

We like Canvas Studio for quick and easy video creation - Users can record videos right from within Canvas and then embed them all throughout your course (i.e., Announcements, Discussions, Pages, Quiz Questions, etc..)

What tool is recommended for recording content on your screen? 

We like Echo 360 Universal Capture - Users have the option to record their screen, their webcam, or both.  If they choose both, viewers can choose which version of the video to watch, including a "split" screen that shows the screen recording and the webcam. Learn to use Echo 360 Universal Capture

We like Zoom - Zoom has become a standard for virtual meetings over the last few years, so many faculty members already feel comfortable using it. Start a meeting, share your screen, and you are off!
